Stools

Your baby may have none to 10 stools per day. They usually occur with or right after feeding and are loose, semi-solid, and yellowish green. Babies normally turn red and fuss with each bowel movement. Some babies may have a stool every other day. Either pattern of stooling is normal, as long as your baby is not distended (swollen stomach) or in pain and the stools are soft. Exclusively breast fed infants may infrequently stool as little as twice a week when they are 3 to 4 months old.

Your baby should be changed as soon as possible after wetting or stooling. Cleanse with warm water or a wipe, then air dry. If a diaper rash develops, expose the area to air whenever possible. Use creams and ointments sparingly and be sure to clean them off at diaper changes.
