Tylenol and Motrin Dosing

Acetaminophen (Tylenol, Tempra, Feverall suppositories) can be given every 4 to 6 hours for temperatures greater than 101 or pain.
Tylenol Drops are no longer commercially available.
Companies are changing the concentration for infants. The new infant acetaminophen will be an oral suspension with a NEW concentration of 160mg/tsp. The dosing will be as stated above for weight.
Ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil) can be given by mouth every 6 to 8 hours for temperature of 101 or greater or pain. Ibuprofen should not be given to infants younger than 6 months.
Start with one oral fever reducer or pain reliever and dose accordingly. If comfort is not sufficiently achieved with one medicine, then alternate acetaminophen two to four hours apart from ibuprofen. Fever reducers are only effective at reducing temperature by 2 to 2 1/2 degrees.
